Can "ethical" be synonymous with "fashion-forward"? Can vegan materials perform just as well as or better than animal-derived products? Is it possible to be at the top of your fashion game and be cruelty-free? Gathering together the designers making all the above possible, PETA hosted its first-ever Vegan Fashion + Sustainability panel talk with designers Joshua Katcher (founder, Brave GentleMan; faculty, Parsons), Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart (founder, VAUTE), Stephanie Nicora (founder, Nicora Johns), Rebecca Mink (founder, Mink Shoes), and moderator Taryn Hipwell, a member of the faculty at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). A packed house of design students, style influencers, and fashion industry change-makers attended the event, which was held at Pyo Gallery LA, just a couple of short blocks from FIDM's campus.

Vegan living is on the rise in the UK, but it's not all about food. Millions of cows, pigs, sheep, and other animals are slaughtered for their skin every year, and today's consumers are increasingly demanding fashionable, functional clothing and accessories that didn't harm a hair on an animal's head.
To help anyone interested in learning how to shop vegan, PETA has teamed up with celebrity stylist Holly Ounstead โ whose client list includes artists such as Little Mix and Leona Lewis โ for a new video in which she reveals her top tips and fashion picks for a cruelty-free winter wardrobe.
Let me know in the comments if you'd love to see more fashion videos from me! It was so fun to make this one and I'd love to include more if you guys are into it.

With the rise of the environmentally conscious consumer and veganism, fashion brands have looked for new sustainable fashion trends. Or at least, products that can be marketed as green. So, is vegan leather actually green, or is its environmental impact equal to - or worse - than real leather?

Want in on a little secret?
Most post days I spend so much time in front of a screen, laboring away, that I almost always end up baking something when I finish. In order to celebrate with something delicious? Sure. But also to have something manual to do that doesnโt involve screens. And baking is such a gratifying task, isnโt it? Unlike many other tasks you may do around the house, thereโs a final product that involves eating. My favorite. (And thanks to this frequent post-baking pairing of mine, I have a couple yummy recipes that I will be sharing with you soon soon soon. Well, as soon as I figure out how to film a recipe video in our kitchen that isnโt just an overhead shotโฆ)
The good news is, though, that Iโve figured out how to shoot capsule wardrobe content. (That isโฆ I got a clothing rack โ essential.) So today Iโm delighted to share with you some of my favorite eco and vegan pieces from both my winter and spring capsules! Hooray!
I know itโs tricky to outfit yourself all in ecoโฆ what with most sustainable brands being online, and therefore, out of โtrying onโ reach. I am so aware of the challenges, and, trust me, I feel your pain. Itโs also true that sometimes buying from eco or sustainable brands can be a bit more expensive. Butโฆ be that as it may, these days we canโt just turn a blind eye to the sinister fast fashion world. (Definitely watch The True Cost if you havenโt yet.)
Well, you can, but you may not sleep well at night. And chances are, if youโre visiting Veggie Magnifique, youโre seeking to live better and sleep well at night. The key here? As always โ Progress not perfection โ i.e. one piece at time {...}

At Pur Style we are always curious about sustainable developments in the fashion industry. Our Social Media Manager Hebe Street interviewed Giovanna Spica, Co-founder of Europe's first vegan online fashion platform Liv & Grace. In the interview you can hear from an entrepreneur, what it means to source vegan fashion, learn about the differences of sustainable fashion, vegan fashion and slow fashion. If you care about your environment you should know, where your clothes come from and what it takes to produce them. Sustainable and also vegan fashion comes with a higher price, you have to be willing to pay in order to wear cruel free fashion.
Enjoy the interview!

At a time where the focus on developing a sustainable fashion industry is stronger than ever, the question remains, how do we move forward within an industry that feeds a culture of wasteful overconsumption? Vegan fashion may be one of the solutions we have been looking for โ but will it continue to catch on?
In this panel discussion, Rachel Kan of Circular Retail is joined by three sustainable fashion advocates who will discuss the future of vegan and sustainable fashion.
Catwalks are embracing eco-friendly and animal-free couture, but with prices as high as CHF 1,000 for some brands, can the trend last? Pauline Treis of Fashion Revolution Switzerland and Sanaz Wasser of the label SANIKAI debate whether this is a long-lasting and lucrative market.
Have you joined the vegan fashion movement yet? Over the years, fashion trends have been changing all around the world. In recent years, we have witnessed the growth of a new era in fashion. Ever heard of "Vegan Fashion" ?
Vegan fashion is entirely cruelty-free. The main goal of vegan fashion is to stop animal cruelty caused by the industry. The leather that we use comes from the skin of pigs, cows, or even alligators. Animal fur also comes from the skin of beavers, coyotes, lambs, rabbits and foxes. The objective of vegan fashion brands is to eradicate such animal cruelty by offering cruelty-free and vegan substitutes for these materials. Many brands are going in this direction and producing cruelty-free vegan fashion.
Giving up meat, dairy and other food from animals is the biggest change vegans make to their lives. However, more vegans are now extending their beliefs to fashion. There is a big increase in the sales of vegan clothing, footwear and accessories. Vegan fashion that has transformed the fashion industry and is constantly proving that it is here to stay. Veganism promotes the use of sustainable, environmentally friendly and cruelty-free living habits. From the food we eat to the clothes we wear to the products we buy and the businesses we support, every choice we make is a statement.
Global organizations like PETA have reported large scale animal abuse for the sake of fashion. The leather industry especially is filled with labor abuse, lack of regulations, tanneries employing child labor and endangering the community and workers with toxic chemicals. Due to public campaigns and demand from consumers for transparency and accountability, the fashion world has now adopted a more compassionate approach.
Making the switch to vegan fashion isnโt as complicated and as expensive as many think. Replacements for conventional animal-based materials produced in nature-friendly ways, are gaining pace. A major shift in fashion production is underway, with a swell in the number of fashion brands experimenting with so-called next-generation materials like vegan leather. With the rising popularity of veganism globally, especially after the pandemic, a new side of fashion i.e. vegan fashion is becoming more and more relevant.
And on this episode we had a fabulous talk with Angie Bell, actress, animal activist, host & spokesmodel of The Vegan Fashion Show on first time here in Toronto, Canada.
Being made with vegan wool means being of high-tech, eco-friendly, cruelty-free constructionโa model set to take over the fashion industry. Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart of VAUTE introduces PETA to her chic wool-free coats and chunky knit sweaters, which encourage positive change by taking animals out of the fashion equation and allow us to look and feel that much better getting dressed in the morning.
