Before lockdown WIRED visited Veolia's recycling plant in Southwark, South London, to ask about some of the most common recycling myths. Do you need to remove the plastic lid when you recycling a water bottle? What do you do with those widgets in Guinness cans? What do all the green symbols mean?

Veolia handles the waste from more than two million Londoners. Every single hour it processes 14 tonnes of recyclable content that we throw away.

This video was produced as part of Digital Society, a publishing partnership between WIRED and Vontobel where all content is editorially independent.

This inspirational video is so full of eye opening information about the vegan diet, maximum life extension, fasting, meditation, yoga, the dangers of glycation and how sugar ages the body. Many nutrition authorities, including the American Dietetic Association, believe protein needs can easily be met by consuming a variety of plant protein sources over an entire day. To get the best benefit from the protein you consume, it is important to eat enough calories to meet your energy needs.
Sugars age you.

Growing scientific evidence shows that eating too much added sugar is linked to serious diseases, such as diabetes, heart disease and liver disease. Sugar Science is based on a comprehensive review of more than 8,000 scientific studies on the health impacts of sugar.

Nobody would mistake sugary soda for a health food, but a new study published in the American Journal of Public Health just found that a daily soda habit can age your immune cells almost two years.

Stay close to nature

Growing evidence suggests that close contact with nature brings benefits to human health and well-being, but the proposed mechanisms are still not well understood and the associations with health remain uncertain. The Positive Health Effects of the Natural Outdoor environment in Typical Populations in different regions in Europe, PHENOTYPE, project investigates the interconnections between natural outdoor environments and better human health and well-being.

Many people, especially animal lovers, choose to follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. But is it possible to make your cat a vegan? Well we have to remember that cats are devout carnivores - and our own thoughts and opinions about animal products can't really battle the years and years of evolution at play here.

There is evidence that diets with no or low levels of animal products may be better for the environment and have human health benefits. And a recent study found a growing number of pet owners are feeding their dogs and cats vegetarian or vegan diets, or would like to do so.

However, meat-free diets can potentially kill or sicken pets!

Dr. Gary Richter loves animals, and is passionate about keeping them healthy and happy as long as possible. He has received more than 30 awards due to his expertise in the field, and The American Veterinary Medical Foundation recently named Dr. Richter “America’s Favorite Veterinarian.” Dr. Richter has been at the forefront of pet nutrition for two decades, and he is also the author of the bestselling “The Ultimate Pet Health Guide.”

Welcome (back) to my channel! In this video you will get a look into my sustainable art studio while I make my own vegan watercolour paint.

I started making vegan watercolour paint, because I have a line of vegan PhD theses with my company GreenThesis. I wanted to be able to offer completely vegan design too.

So why vegan watercolour paint? Regular watercolour paint uses a variety of animal-derived products. Most paints for example contain ox gall and/or glycerine made from animal fat. In my previous watercolour paint recipe I already eliminated these animal-based ingredients by using plant-based glycerine and skipping the ox gall altogether. However, I did use honey, which isn't vegan either, so I decided to also search for alternatives to honey, and I'm very happy with the results. In addition, I also don't use animal-derived pigments in my vegan paints (for example bone black, eggshell white, carmine and sepia). On a side note, paper also isn't necessarily vegan, because they are often sized using for example gelatin, made from animal bones. Thus I also searched for vegan paper alternatives and my favourite vegan paper to use for my vegan designs is now agave or bamboo paper by Hahnemuhle, which is certified vegan.

The paint I make today uses French ochre, basically soil, which I ground, sift and purify to get a fine pigment. The pigment is then used to make watercolour paint, using my own vegan watercolour binder.

I love making my own paint. It takes a lot of work for just one color, usually several hours if you make everything from scratch, but it is so satisfying, and it really lets you connect to the source of art, the raw materials. Fortunately, with watercolour paint, a little goes a long way, so the paint I make will last for months.

For those interested: for my vegan binder I used gum arabic, distilled water and vegetable glycerine (1:2:1 ratio), and a drop of clove oil as a natural preservative.

If you try your hand at making your own watercolour paint at home, please take the proper precautions, such as protective gear, and only use non-toxic materials. This video is meant as an inspirational video only.

In this video I will explain how to transition from vegetarian to vegan diet and lifestyle. Please comment down below with your thoughts. Thanks for watching!

Queso Dip Recipe:

1 and 1/2 cups raw cashews
3 tbl nutritional yeast
1/2 tsp sea salt
1/4 tsp garlic salt
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
1 cup hot water

Put all in the Vitamix and blend on high for a few minutes until steaming and creamy :)

“Mozarella” Recipe
1/2 cup raw cashews (soaked &
drained)
1 & 1/4 cup water
1 tsp lemon juice
1/4 cup tapioca flour
1& 1/2 tbl nutritional yeast
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp garlic salt

Add soaked cashews, water, lemon juice, tapioca starch/flour, nutritional yeast, salt, garlic salt, & jalapeño to a Vitamix. Blend on high for 1 - 2 minutes.
Pour cheese into a small sauce pan, on medium high heat & stir with a wooden spoon constantly for 2 - 4 minutes. The key to this cheese staying smooth & not lumpy is the stirring, so make sure it gets your full attention. As it thickens you will need to scrape the sides, after 2 - 4 minutes, turn down to a low heat & continue to stir until it looks like a very melted cheesy consistency. Its ok to turn off the heat while it still looks a little liquidy, as it will firm up on its own.

Snail Mucin is one of the trending ingredients in K-Beauty, but not really an option if you want to use a vegan skincare routine. Good thing that brands like Vegreen offer alternatives. But are the Vegreen Fragrance-Free Nature Mucin Serum and Alcohol-Free Nature Mucin Toner any good? Let's see!

As doctor passionate about skin care that delivers results I want to help you quickly and efficiently pick a skin care regime that works, by explaining the science behind skin and by sharing quick product reviews.
I am a big believer that creating a skincare routine that targets your specific concerns is not a matter of your budget. There are many great affordable brands out there: The Inkey List, Good Molecules, Geek & Gorgeous or pixi skincare to name a few of my favorites, and if you know how to combine them, you are well on your way to healthy and happy skin.
Healthy and happy skin does not mean "flawless" - whatever that might be. I have been struggling with acne, hyperpigmentation and postinflammatory erythema (PIH and PIE) for most of my adult life, and it took me a while to figure out that gentle is key. I went through a retinol damaged skin barrier, acne flare ups and sun damage until I finally reached my happy place: With Tretinoin, sunscreen and of course a red lipstick!

Vegan in Paris! A whole day of eating & drinking only plant-based foods in Paris & some tips and tricks for you!

Hellloo lovelies (:
The second video in our little paris series is a where to eat in Paris (vegan edition).

Quick disclaimer: I was fully vegan for 6 years and I now eat sustainable fish & eggs occasionally. On our trip I tried dairy for the first time in years as I didn’t want my diet choices to dictate our trip too much. My partner isn’t vegan but is when he’s with me (: This was my second time in Paris whilst vegan, and it hasn’t gotten easier since last time. I’ll link all the places mentioned before and any other places we visited throughout the trip with great options!

My top tips for travelling to Paris as a vegan:
⭐️ Buy a little bottle of dairy free milk to enjoy with your coffee either in your hotel or at cafes (as it’s not common for places to offer any alternative milks to full cream!) the little coffee carts around paris usually have options, my favourite was Cafe Kitstume!

⭐️ Have a few places in mind of where to eat in the general area you’re heading each day & check their menus before

⭐️ Make a trip to one of the vegan/gf bakeries and buy some croissants for the next few days so you can experience the Parisian breakfast properly each morning if there isn’t one nearby where you’re staying ☺️

⭐️ & finally, don’t beat yourself up if you want to try something that has dairy, eggs etc. in it, you’re travelling - enjoy it and don’t let what good you do the other 364 days of the year taint your Parisian experience!
