Before lockdown WIRED visited Veolia's recycling plant in Southwark, South London, to ask about some of the most common recycling myths. Do you need to remove the plastic lid when you recycling a water bottle? What do you do with those widgets in Guinness cans? What do all the green symbols mean?

Veolia handles the waste from more than two million Londoners. Every single hour it processes 14 tonnes of recyclable content that we throw away.

This video was produced as part of Digital Society, a publishing partnership between WIRED and Vontobel where all content is editorially independent.

In this episode of Abbey’s Kitchen , Abbey is reviewing one of Ellen Fisher’s What I Eat in a Day video, featuring her family. Let’s take a deeper look at their lifestyle and what they typically eat in a day.

Okay, right off the bat, super adorable kids. Also great that her kids participate in the kitchen. BUT, Abbey’s not a fan of big quantities of juice for children. When juicing, you’re losing out on a bunch of fibre, and it’s best to keep your kid’s juice intake to 1/4 cup a day.

Abbey recommends you use the pulp to add to yogurt, oats or dehydrate it and turn it into fruit leather.

Yes avocados are a great source of healthy fats especially for a growing babe, but I would add some variety of the meal and not just serve up fruit with it. Ideally some source of iron like pulses.

Side note, looks like Ellen is just having papaya fo breakfast which is a whole lot of fruit and would love to see some protein. But Abbey loves how independent Sandy is and how Ellen lets Sandy discover the food on their own.

Abbey is loving that they’re still breastfeeding! Abbey is still worried about the lack of iron in the meal so far.

Looks like lunch is a smoothie, and Abbey wished she wasn’t seeing so many liquid foods. Abbey likes seeing the hemp heart and spiriluna. But looks like Sandy is enjoying more whole pieces of food.

Abbey would like to see some more variety in the fats Ellen is offering Sandy and not much variety in texture. Abbey is not a fan of the addition of sprouts, because sprouts are made in a warm environment and theres a higher risk of food borne illnesses. So cooking them instead of raw is better.

Let’s look at Sandy’s nutrition. It looks like Sandy is meeting his needs but is far from balanced.

Abbey is hoping the family is supplementing vitamin B12.
Abbey wants to see some more iron, because it looks like Sandy is getting around 1mg of iron and it’s recommended to get 7mg. Abbey would have liked to see more zinc foods. Finally, Abbey would have liked to see some more vitamin D rich foods.

Abbey is no way wants to shame another mother and their family but when Abbey sees a YouTuber sharing their life and recommending what to feed their babies, Abbey has to put on her research hat. Feeding a baby a vegan diet can be done. It just needs to be followed carefully, ensuring all the vitamins and minerals are accounted for. It’s important we focus on feeding our kids a nice variety of foods and texture.

If you want to feed your baby a vegan diet, make sure you’re speaking with a Registered Dietitian. You want to make sure you are getting the right information from a trusted professional and not a vegan YouTuber.

If you liked this video, be sure to give it a thumbs up! Leave me a comment below on what other YouTubers What I Eat In a Day you want me to review. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you next time on Abbey’s Kitchen!

Introduction to a Vegan Diet For Muscle Building (0:54)

Before we look at the exact foods for a vegan muscle building diet, it’s important that you also make sure that you’re on the right muscle building training program to see the best muscle gains. So in this section, we’re going to give you some of the basics of a muscle-building training program.

How to Set Your Muscle Building Protein Target (2:26)

Whether you’re eating a plant-based meal plan or not, the first focus for a bodybuilding diet is to lock in your protein target. Proteins are the building blocks of muscle gains, and we recommend getting around 0.8g-1g of protein per pound of bodyweight daily. From this target, it will be much easier to work in your protein foods for the day, along with your carbs and fats. And this is especially important for a vegan bodybuilding diet as protein sources are a little more scarce.

How Many Meals To Eat Each Day (3:24)

As with any diet, there are a variety of ways that we can approach scheduling out your meals for the day, in terms of both timing and amount. As long as you’re hitting both your protein and calorie targets for the day, it really comes down to what is going to the most convenient for your schedule. As you’ll discover in this video, for a vegan muscle building diet, we recommend eating around 4 meals per day so you can spread out your protein intake.

Calorie Target for a Vegan Bodybuilding Diet (4:11)

Another important consideration for your vegan bodybuilding diet is, of course, determining your daily caloric intake. Because if you’re underrating, your muscle gains will suffer, and in this video, we will help you determine your daily calorie target for building muscle.

Meals for a Vegan Bodybuilding Diet (5:17)

Again, there’s a fair amount of variety here based upon your daily schedule, but to help get you started, we lay out a basic vegan meal based around the 4 meal setup that we discussed previously. In this section of the video, you’ll also discover some of the best vegan foods for a bodybuilding diet.

FAQ’s- Vegan Bodybuilding Diet (8:09)

In this section, you’ll discover answers to some of the most common questions and concerns when it comes to a vegan muscle building diet. You’ll discover whether or not the proteins from a vegan diet are equivalent to an omnivorous diet, how to supplement your nutrition with some of the key muscle-building nutrients that you might be missing out on, and whether or not soy will negatively impact your testosterone levels and muscle gains.

Interest in vegan food and its associated health benefits has been booming across the rich world. A global retreat from meat could have a far-reaching environmental impact.

By 2050 the world's population could approach 10 billion - and around 60% more food could be needed to feed everyone. The environmental impacts of the food system are daunting its responsible for about a quarter of all greenhouse gas emissions and uses about 70% of all freshwater resources, and it occupies about 40% of the Earth's land surface.

Food rated emissions could increase to 50 percent by 2050 and fill up the total emissions budget that we have in order to avoid dangerous levels of climate change.

Interest in vegan food has been booming across the rich world. A major study has put the diet to the test - analyzing an imagined scenario in which the world goes vegan by 2050. If everybody went vegan by 2050 we estimated that food-related greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced by 3/4.

Cows are the biggest emission contributors. Bugs in their digestive system produce methane and deforestation for their pasture releases carbon dioxide - these gases warm the planet. If cows were a country, they'd be the third largest greenhouse gas emitter.
