'Pets' implies ownership, and as vegans, we recognise that we can't 'own' someone else's life. We are their guardians, friends, and companions. As for them being vegan - of course they can't. They're not making a conscious decision to reject speciesism. They can, however, throve on reasonably well-planned plant-based diets.
