In this episode of Abbey’s Kitchen , Abbey is reviewing one of Ellen Fisher’s What I Eat in a Day video, featuring her family. Let’s take a deeper look at their lifestyle and what they typically eat in a day.
Okay, right off the bat, super adorable kids. Also great that her kids participate in the kitchen. BUT, Abbey’s not a fan of big quantities of juice for children. When juicing, you’re losing out on a bunch of fibre, and it’s best to keep your kid’s juice intake to 1/4 cup a day.
Abbey recommends you use the pulp to add to yogurt, oats or dehydrate it and turn it into fruit leather.
Yes avocados are a great source of healthy fats especially for a growing babe, but I would add some variety of the meal and not just serve up fruit with it. Ideally some source of iron like pulses.
Side note, looks like Ellen is just having papaya fo breakfast which is a whole lot of fruit and would love to see some protein. But Abbey loves how independent Sandy is and how Ellen lets Sandy discover the food on their own.
Abbey is loving that they’re still breastfeeding! Abbey is still worried about the lack of iron in the meal so far.
Looks like lunch is a smoothie, and Abbey wished she wasn’t seeing so many liquid foods. Abbey likes seeing the hemp heart and spiriluna. But looks like Sandy is enjoying more whole pieces of food.
Abbey would like to see some more variety in the fats Ellen is offering Sandy and not much variety in texture. Abbey is not a fan of the addition of sprouts, because sprouts are made in a warm environment and theres a higher risk of food borne illnesses. So cooking them instead of raw is better.
Let’s look at Sandy’s nutrition. It looks like Sandy is meeting his needs but is far from balanced.
Abbey is hoping the family is supplementing vitamin B12.
Abbey wants to see some more iron, because it looks like Sandy is getting around 1mg of iron and it’s recommended to get 7mg. Abbey would have liked to see more zinc foods. Finally, Abbey would have liked to see some more vitamin D rich foods.
Abbey is no way wants to shame another mother and their family but when Abbey sees a YouTuber sharing their life and recommending what to feed their babies, Abbey has to put on her research hat. Feeding a baby a vegan diet can be done. It just needs to be followed carefully, ensuring all the vitamins and minerals are accounted for. It’s important we focus on feeding our kids a nice variety of foods and texture.
If you want to feed your baby a vegan diet, make sure you’re speaking with a Registered Dietitian. You want to make sure you are getting the right information from a trusted professional and not a vegan YouTuber.
If you liked this video, be sure to give it a thumbs up! Leave me a comment below on what other YouTubers What I Eat In a Day you want me to review. Thanks for watching and I’ll see you next time on Abbey’s Kitchen!

I've been vegan for 6 years and training for 8 years. Here's how my body transformed in that time and what I learned.
My 6 Year Vegan Body Transformation - 3 Things I Learned
Here's my full vegan body transformation as a male, before and after:
About 8 years ago. I was a lost kid.
There was a video game called Metin2. I was addicted to it. I smoked cigarettes on the weekends and I often drank to black outs.
Sometimes I spent days without leaving my room - glued to my computer. Or my hookah. I used to smoke hookah when gaming or watching a video.
My big brother called me "the unhealthiest person he knew". And I think he was right.
Yet, I thought to myself: "Why change, if this is working just fine?"
Jokes on me. My life was deteriorating in front of my eyes. I was just too blind to see it.
I nearly dropped out of school due to bad grades. I was looking to become a lawyer and felt like I had no control over my life anymore.
1. Accept total responsibility.
You are at your current situation because of you. Not because of any other external circumstances, not because of any force that is against you. But because of YOU and the choices that you made in the past. Once you accept full responsibility for your situation, you can change. You can change your choices – you can change your life.
One time, still in my gamer, smoking and drinking time, a friend of mine dragged me in the gym.
Although I didn't like exerting myself at all, I noticed early on that the gym helps me grow. It made me feel excited about the future. It made me feel truly and sustainably good about myself. Something I haven't felt in a while.
The results of training however were slow. I remember I was googling 2 weeks transformation and was dissatisfied with my results.
I wanted to give up multiple times on this journey of my body transformation. So I had 2 options: 1. Throwing in the towel or 2. Learning more about what I'm doing wrong.
I chose the latter - so I had to develop an insatiable need for knowledge.
I devoured dozens of books on the topic. Hired coaches. Got my degree in the Swiss Academy Of Fitness and Sports. And stumbled into veganism along the way after reading the book 'Eating Animals' by Jonathan Safran Foer (amazing book btw).
I went vegan after 2 years of training and it was the first time I ever saw a sixpack in my life.
2. The value of learning.
Strive for continuous education. After finishing school is when the education starts, not where it ends.
Right now I am training for about 8 years and am vegan for about 6 years. My blood test results are perfect, I have a sixpack year round and I can run a 10k, do martial arts and train in the gym.
Being in great shape is an enabler & an amplifier for your life. It makes everything way easier. You have more confidence, you have more energy, you feel mentally clear and you feel in control of your body.
Here’s how serious I am about this: If someone would offer me $1,000,000 to go back to where I was 8 years ago I’d decline. No thanks.
Realize that your body is your vehicle for life. The better you fuel it and the more you take care of your vehicle, the better your life will be. This was a key learning that I took from my 6 year (and ongoing!) vegan experience.
3. The only true asset that we have in this life, is our health.
Without health, we can’t enjoy relationships, we can’t enjoy our family, we can’t enjoy our wealth. Health therefore should always be a priority and be reflected by our lifestyle choices. Where we spend our time, where we spend our money and where we spend our energy.
Strong Vegans Vs. Weak Vegans!
I have to say; some people are right when they say vegans are weak! New and misguided vegans consume the wrong foods, making them weak!
Protein intake is misguided in the vegan community. Many people believe they are a strong vegan by getting 40 - 60g of protein per day by eating rice and beans!
If you follow this trend, it will make you a weak vegan. Get most of your protein source from extra firm tofu, seitan, tempeh, and protein powder.
Exercise has many health benefits to improving your physical health and appearance. The type of exercise you do can weaken or optimize your fitness goals.
Weak vegans do a lot of cardio to lose weight which can give you a skinny fat look. Strong vegans combine functional and hypertrophy training to build lean muscle! For cardio, they do steady state and HITT to have an strong look!
Lastly, strong vegans are vegan for the animals! They stand up for what they believe in and are not afraid of conflict with other people. Weak vegans are shy and will say they are plant-based to avoid conflict and fit in.
Speak up for the voiceless and be a strong vegan!

The best Thai vegan street food we could find in Phuket Old Town's Sunday Walking Street Market - Travel Vlog
In this segment of our Asian vegan food tour playlist we visit the famous Phuket Sunday Walking Street which is on every Sunday afternoon from 4pm - 10pm. This is a free attraction in Phuket Old Town.
Come along with us as we sample some of the most unique street food we have ever seen in Asia. This market incredible with cuisines for all taste buds.
The market is accessible from all parts of Phuket via the Blue Baht Bus which runs daily to and from Old Town.
If you're coming to Phuket, add this market to the list of Must See Places. It's a foodie's paradise, even for Vegans looking for a cheap night out!
Wikipedia says that "Old Town is an area of historical interest in the city of Phuket. The main streets of Old Town are Thalang, Phang Nga, Krabi, Dibuk, and Yoawarat. Old Town is noted for Sino-Portuguese buildings on both sides of the street. Many old buildings have been converted into shops, hotels, restaurants, and museums... Phuket has a rich history as tin-mining country peopled by Siamese, Chinese, Malays, Indians, Eurasians, and sea gypsies."
Hang out with Anji and Ryan on a busy Saturday whilst they work on minimizing a wee bit. The duo travel to nearby port town, San Pedro, to deliver stuff at a hazardous materials drop off station -- where they run into an LA Fruitluck Meetup pal -- then mail out CDs at a historic art deco post office and grab a bite at a new raw vegan cafe. On the way back, they shop at a Cambodian market for mangoes, which Anji uses for some yummy fruit tacos. But wait, there's more! Check it all out and let us know what you think in the comments section. :)
Do you ever feel like Orange County is so conservative they closed almost all of the recycling centers to ward of homeless people who love to recycle? Well I have to go to Mission Viejo to recycle. But at least there's a cool little cafe there called Higher Grounds and a lovely little hiking area with statues and bridges, a peace obelisk and an Earth Day monument.
It's Earth Day, and even though veganism is clearly the greatest thing you can do for the environment, one can always do more. And I'm not one to shirk my responsibilities.
In this episode of FUEL, we head to new heights following professional rock climber Alex Honnold, whose jaw-dropping, free-solo climbs (no ropes) have cemented him as one of the most revered and respected climbers in the world.
Set in stunning Utah, Alex takes us along as he trains and preps for an upcoming expedition in Angola, Africa. We follow him to unique climbing destinations; Maple Canyon for cobble climbing and an intense alpine scramble up the south ridge of Mount Superior with fellow dirtbag climber James Lucas.
Before setting off for Angola, being a self-professed lazy cook, Alex shops for vegan snacks and drops by Gnarly Nutrition in search of light, tasty, and travel-friendly food to keep him powered up and at a high fitness level. It’s clear, no matter what Alex scarfs up, that by following his own brand of a healthy middle ground, the sky’s the limit.
Here are the most common mistakes people make when trying a raw vegan diet.
China is the biggest consumer of meat in the world, but its goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions is also fueling a plant-based food movement. Annie Louey explains.

Can "ethical" be synonymous with "fashion-forward"? Can vegan materials perform just as well as or better than animal-derived products? Is it possible to be at the top of your fashion game and be cruelty-free? Gathering together the designers making all the above possible, PETA hosted its first-ever Vegan Fashion + Sustainability panel talk with designers Joshua Katcher (founder, Brave GentleMan; faculty, Parsons), Leanne Mai-ly Hilgart (founder, VAUTE), Stephanie Nicora (founder, Nicora Johns), Rebecca Mink (founder, Mink Shoes), and moderator Taryn Hipwell, a member of the faculty at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM). A packed house of design students, style influencers, and fashion industry change-makers attended the event, which was held at Pyo Gallery LA, just a couple of short blocks from FIDM's campus.

It’s hard to put into words how it feels when you surround yourself with the right group of people. When you find your community. Your tribe. A few weeks ago, we held our annual Vegan Superhero Retreat for clients of our Vegan Superhero Academy coaching program. It was an action packed week in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania filled with laughter, smiles, and life lasting memories. And wow. It was a truly life-changing experience, and one that we invite you to experience for yourself...
Let’s work together to inspire change, spread compassion, and challenge the status quo.#vegan#vegancommunity #veganretreat#vegans
